Emergency Food Assistance

How we can help

Clients who possess a valid Client Card are eligible for the following services at no financial cost and without being tied to other conditions (e.g. volunteer participation, donation requirements, engagement in faith based or political activities, etc.).

5-7 days of emergency food assistance. Households are eligible for one food hamper per calendar month.

Alongside our regular hampers, we also have Halal Hampers and Gluten Free items as available.

Bread, produce, and shelf items available. Client households may come once daily (Monday-Friday), as required.

These bundles supplement a diabetic diet with low-sugar & high-fiber items. What goes in our Diabetic Bundles?

These bundles include baby cereal and food, something soft & other necessities. Baby Bundles are given once monthly until the child’s first birthday. Things like diapers, formula, etc. are also available upon request. What goes in our Baby Bundles?

Upsized hampers during this crucial development stage, until baby is one year old.

These include cake mix, icing & a gift (as available) for children 1-12. Clients must notify food bank staff and volunteers before the actual birth date.

After the Bell is a food pack program that runs through the summer. We work with Food Banks Canada to create healthy food packs for school aged kids who often do not have the same access to school breakfast/lunch programs during the summer months.

In addition to a regular monthly hamper, families receive all the fixings for a festive meal.

Christmas gift referrals are offered in partnership with local programs.

Requirements for Eligibility

To access food bank services, community members are asked to provide a certain amount of information which enables us to determine whether or not they are eligible to receive our services. This is a primarily income-based screening process; special circumstances are considered as well. To apply for client services (or renew your Client Card), individuals are required to provide the following identification and information:

  • Goverment Issued ID
  • Alberta Healthcare Card for you and any dependants in your household
  • Proof of Residence
  • Proof of Income (Bank statements, AISH, EI, wages, pension)
For each visit, clients must bring their Client Card, and when picking up the monthly food hamper, photo identification is required. Client Cards typically expire every six months. As a food bank client you will have access to monthly hampers and daily supplements. Clients who possess a valid Client Card are eligible for the following services at no financial cost and without being tied to other conditions (e.g. volunteer participation, donation requirements, engagement in faith based or political activities, etc.).
